OMG! The leaves’ scent is intoxicatingly beautiful and we are excited to explore them for essential oils and other uses.

Some seedlings have red tint underneath leaves and stems.

NOTES ON BERGAMOT

  • Tolerate full sun
  • Soil PH is 6 to 6.7
  • Need to regularly divide to do well, remove “dead” center
  • Both leaves and flowers are edible
  • Leaves can be dried for tea
  • When added to Chinese red tea, the leaves taste is similar to bergamot orange which is used in Earl Grey
  • Not fussy about soil type, but preferred well-draining type
  • Needs well-ventilated environment
  • Prune often
  • Flowers are purple in color, attracts hummingbirds
  • Perennial herbs
  • Potential height is 4 feet
  • Hardy in zone 4 – 10
