It was always a pleasure to share how to grow wholesome fresh greens at home with beginners!

As with all my workshops, the date and time are set by participant/s.

These salads and herbs workshop need advance notice of 1 week to start a wide selection of uncommon vegetable seedlings for handling (and bring home to grow!).

Lavender workshop is an add-on to hydro herbs and vegetable class above.

In addition to growing, the bushing technique is taught to turn a lean cutting into a bush for a lusher garden.

WAI PING – Vegetable + Lavenders + Herb

My take-home from the leafy course…

I attended Victoria’s Vegetable and Herb workshop on 21st Sept 2019 as a solo participant.

I am a novice planter, desperate for some semblance of green fingers as i have killed 6 lavenders and 2 rosemaries which i bought from the nurseries on 3 different occasions. *facepalm*

Registration, fixing up a date to meet and getting to her place was a breeze as instructions and expectations were clearly communicated.

Her big and spacious apartment was teeming with rows and rows of greens.

She showed me around her impressive apartment garden filled with vege and herbs, and i am so thrilled with her lavender garden as she shared her recycle hacks and her take of a vertical garden. It was so inspiring to realize how much we really need, or need not spend, to get it going. Just upcycle your everyday stuff u got lying in ur house.

The workshop was conducted in her well-lit study, and all the preparation of notes, tools, utensils, kits, plants, and seedlings needed were laid neatly on the table.

As we followed through the PowerPoint presentation for the course, she would always stop and answer any query that i had.

Practical hands-on went on hand in hand as we progressed with the workshop, from how certain things needed to be prepped, handling of the seedlings and plants, setting of the plants, and her take and success stories with the various methods and variety of her garden.

It was truly eye-opening, and I am very grateful for her sharing her treasure trove of knowledge and experiences.

Throughout the course, Vic was really patient and a good teacher and listener.

The workshop came with plants and seedlings and hydro nutrient solution to bring home, and 3 weeks after the class, my plants, and their root systems are still very much alive!!

The precious lavender cutting which came home together with me has flourished with her wonder hydro nutrient solution and has grown such a thick strong stem, with luscious and fragrant leaves.

I have even managed to get a cutting from the cutting and now setting it up for it to root.

Vic’s course is a good place for me to start learning and knowing more about gardening and herbs and vege, and how to get it started and going.

With the right know-how, methods and environment, she has demonstrated that it can be done easily.

I really learned alot and enjoyed my time at her home.

I have since been looking forward to my evening relaxing quiet time tending to the garden, watching them grow and enjoying the fragrance.

I really enjoyed myself and this newfound hobby.

WIWIN and Wife, Indonesian, 2019, commented in lavenders‘ post

My wife and I found this blog after a failed attempt at caring for a lavender pot bought at a local nursery.

The plant started to wilt just after two days 🙁

Having never cared for live plants before, we needed help

On that same weekend, I booked a session with SG Strawberries and they were kind enough to slot in an urgent request.

We came on a Saturday and spent 4 hours learning about what it takes to successfully keep lavenders thriving.

The instructor was cheery, insightful and transparent in her explanations, which gave us the reinforcement we needed as beginners.

I would recommend their workshops to anyone who might benefit from lavenders 101

I attended the workshop on soil, hydroponics and vegetables this afternoon as a beginner with zero knowledge of gardening (and a track record of succulents dying under my care D:).

The workshop was an enriching and enjoyable experience, and it completely exceeded my expectations.

The workshop was well-paced and Victoria covered both the theory and practical aspects of gardening.

She explained the pros and cons of using soil and hydroponics and then demonstrated both processes.

I was given the chance to try out both methods and Victoria was especially patient when I was struggling to transplant the tiny seedlings!

She was also very hands-on when guiding me during the process and imparted tips and tricks on how to handle the seeds/seedlings.

I especially appreciated how Victoria taught me how to properly use the nutrient solution and how the plants, required different water/nutrient conditions at their different stages.

Victoria never grew tired of my many questions and she answered them all patiently!

Besides giving me a ton of information about gardening, Victoria also showed me the various plants she had been growing in her place, and we had a taste test of different leaves like scarlet kale and oyster leaves!

We then enjoyed mint tea with the leaves freshly plucked from her home garden, and I must say the mint leaves were really strong-smelling!

Prior to the workshop, I had indicated that I was interested in growing kale.

I was therefore touched to find out that Victoria had specially prepared more kale seeds for me to grow.

What further surprised me was when Victoria gifted me with many seedlings / budding plants of different varieties!

This included both herbs and a very unique byblis plant.

I did not expect this at all, and it made a lovely start to my gardening journey.

I left the workshop with my head and heart full!

The workshop was value-for-money and it was a wonderful afternoon of learning and chatting with Victoria.

“I’ve had the most wonderful time  this morning learning about germinating seeds and rooting cuttings in hydro.

All thanks to Victoria who is so generous with her exotic plants (I lucked out with an ice plant) and knowledgeable sharing.

She even prepared a scrumptious soup made of home-grown herbs just in case I was hungry.

I went home with an ikea bag full of goodies (30 plus seeds, seedlings and rooted cuttings), solutions and even a rice plant because she’s nice like that.

So for new gardeners who want to learn how to grow your own salads and herbs, I can’t recommend this workshop more.

Happy weekend all and off I go to play with my new babies.”

“I’ve always known planting wasn’t easy and have seen my mom struggle with her only plant – shui mei for many years.

The idea of growing herbs in my own little HDB balcony came about when I was cooking some lamb cutlets and had no rosemary and mint.

I went to supermarket to buy and they cost quite a bit.

Also to use all of the herbs in one cooking since I was only a weekend cook.

So I went to nursery to buy my first pot of mint and rosemary.

Sadly, they didn’t last very long in my hands.

So I embarked on my ‘learning’ journey on herbs and came across Vic’s SG Strawberries blog.

I attended a 1:1 session with Vic on basics of planting herbs and vegetables.

She covered soil and water medium and also the Kratky Method which is very useful in my case.

Thanks to Vic for sharing lots of tips and advice on how to look after these little delicate species.

I’ve enjoyed the learning journey.”
