How to grow aloe vera –

Aloe Vera Plant Care and Problems
How to propagate aloe vera 🙂

Interesting information about Aloe Vera from my readings –

  • is a succulent and like the cacti, cannot tolerate any medium that allowed water to stay stagnant. (Eric Lim recommend lecca balls, cacti mix, basically it is similiar to rosemary/lavender which loves the dry medium in this customize soil formula post! Another method is potting soil with more sand and perlite to allow water to drain out quickly. 🙂
  • Bright light area is best
  • Water this plant only when the soil is very dry

Benefits and Uses –

  • Hair & Scalp Care – Aloe Vera gel contains proteolytic enzymes which repair dead skin cells on scalp. Its a good conditioner that not only allow hair to shine but also reduce dandruff, itching and promotes hair growth! 🙂
  • Skin Care – reduce inflammation and rashes
  • First Aid – relieve sunburns and other minor burns

Natural Care with Aloe Vera Gel – Blend to a paste and apply

  • Dry Skin – pinch of tumeric, teaspoon each of honey and milk, rose water
  • Sensitive Skin – cucumber juice, yogurt and rose oil (I use pure essential oil extract)
  • Scrub – a cup of sugar and two tablespoons of lemon (have not tried! )
  • Hair Mask – coconut oil and few drops of rosemary essential oil

Disclaimer – I love these natural remedies but only try at own risk! 🙂

  1. Hihi,

I’m a new gardener.. I’ve been reading you blog for a while now n has been always inspired by how you broke the norm and managed to grow strawberries in our very hot climate..

I’m not so ambitious yet.. Though one day I do hope to have my own strawberry and grapes plant.. I am starting a little herb garden just something small to gain more experience about gardening before I move in to something more complex..

Recently I was in an Airbnb in Sydney and saw the cutest Meyer lemon drawf plant.. I remembered that you planted some a while ago.. So I am writing to you to ask if you would be able to sell me a cutting or if you can point me in the direction of someone who has a cutting to sell..

I would be so grateful..I called many many many nurseries but to no avail..

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

    1. Hi Cheryl,

My meyer lemon died, but before that, it was really slow growing. If you are in Singapore, I think there are dwarf grafted plant available in nurseries, like World Farm, Sing See Soon and others. Faster to see fruits from a grafted plant than seeds (trust me, very very slow growing and tend to attract caterpillar & grasshoppers)!
